How Can I Help My 1 Week Old Nurse When My Nipples Will Not Stick Out?

Ok, so I know it’s probably too much info, but I have large breasts with flat nipples so it is very frusterating for me and my baby to try to get a good latch, especially with him being so small, he’s only 6 pounds 1.4 ounces and 17.5 inches long and when he opens his mouth as wide as he can my breasts just dont seem to be able to squish small enough for him to get a good latch on top of the problem with my flat nipples. so for now I’m exclusively pumping and feeding him through a bottle since I dnt know what else to do and I don’t want him to starve. But at the same time I want to actually breastfeed from my breasts. I work with him everyday to try to latch but it just seems to leave us both in tears and when I think he’s latched, because he’s sucking, turns out my nipple isn’t even in his mouth. I try expressing some hoping that if he just gets a little milk he will latch on and that will draw out my nipple but just doesnt work. I’ve thought about getting a nipple shield to wean him off the bottles then wean him off the shield to my breast as his mouth gets bigger and he can latch hold better, but i know that it will be hard to know how much he’s eating and if he’s getting enough without being weighed regularly and i know with the nipple shields you’re suppose to use them under the watch of a lactation consultant and i don’t know how to find one or even how much it would cost me, and it’s not like i can afford to pay. Any advice would be much appreciated, i’m willing to try anything. I want what’s best for my son and I know that breasts is best.
